
Free Play: Free play encourage children to grow in their feelings of self-esteem by developing their capabilities and exploring their interests. Children have the opportunity to choose to participate either alone or with other children in a wide range of activities: art experiences, blocks, books, home area, puppets, puzzles, record, science area, stories, tree-house, trucks water/bean table, woodworking and workables. A playground is available for climbing sliding, riding swinging and sand play.
Free play encourages children to function independently by learning to initiate activities, make choices, solve problems, respect one another's rights and feeling, resolve conflicts, follow though on decisions, and gain friendships. Children interact with others and learn valuable social and interpersonal skills. Mt. View teachers set limits that are non-judgmental, enabling children to develop inner control and respond to guidance without shame or resentment.
Group Activities: Feelings of togetherness and belonging are promoted through the use of group activities at Mt. View. teachers designate and discuss themes during each school day - pumpkins, changing seasons, water and weather, plants and animals, people - which are sources of wonder and curiosity for the young child. Mt. View introduces music to young children through special programs, ad age-appropriate filed trips expand learning experiences.
Small Group - Stories, conversations and special activities are shared by a small group of children and he teachers and peers with whom they best relate. Early in the year, the child's small group teacher will visit him/her at home to build a bridge of security and trust for the child from home to school.
Rug Time - Song, poems, puppets games and stories and shared by the entire group of children. Rug time becomes an opportunity to discuss the day's theme and a time for experiences and conversations that expand the children's awareness and understanding of their world
T-Th: The Tuesday-Thursday class is open to children who are three years of age by November 30th, and runs from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
M-W-F: The Monday-Wednesday-Friday class is open to children who are four years of age by November 30th, and also runs from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
Multi-Age: The Multi-Age class is open to children who are three or four years of age by November 30th. Multi-Age is offered on varying days, depending on the child's age, from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.
Enrichment: The Enrichment class is open to children who turn five by December 31st. Preference is given to those children who are age eligible for kindergarten. Enrichment offers the standard Mt. View curriculum, plus additional activities to prepare children for Kindergarten, and is offered Monday through Thursday afternoons from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.
Lunch Bunch: Lunch Bunch is offered as an option Monday - Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.. Parents may sign up for certain days on a yearly basis, or if space is available, on a monthly basis.
